Puget Sound brother, Matt Santos, made a grab of an elderly woman in Spanaway early this morning. See information below.

Matt Santos FaceBook post:
"Today I was able to make my first rescue in a house fire. Station 65 crews did a great job knocking down the fire, my Lieutenant on E61 located the victim and Jim and I got to make the grab! Medic 60 was able to stabilize her and hopefully she is able to recover. What a great freakin feeling! My thoughts are with the victim and her family..."

Excellent job brother!!!

To echo the other brothers, great job Matt. Great to see you being a stand up guy and passing the credit to your crew members and other involved crews. Mark of a true gentleman!

Thanks for the kudos guys, but truthfully I'm a little embarrassed because I didn't expect to see this post on the forum.
On arrival to the structure, it was a large rambler with heavy fire involvement to the living room, foyer, kitchen and starting to get into the attic. E65 crews had to extend 2 1/2 and wye off and then extend off of that to get to the seat of the fire. They knocked it out fast and our crew started our search.
Our seach was complicated by the fact that ventilation wasn't effective because the cops smashed out a bunch of windows and the place was huge. My LT found the victim and what he initially thought was a child, but luckily it was only a doll. My partner and I hauled her out.
It was a bit of a surreal experience. To me, it wasn't any different than any unconscious patient that we carry out of a home and put onto a stretcher, so it wasn't until later that we realized we made a rescue. We thought she was dead, so we layed her down and returned to look for more victims (found her dog). When we came back out, the medics that we left her with were performing CPR and a medic student that was a complete White Cloud and was on her last shift with us, finally got a tube!
Unfortunately, the patient died a few days later in the hospital with her family by her side. According to the family, they were greatful to have had the opportunity to hold her hand and say their farewells.
The real credit goes to the medic crew. They worked hard and brought her back, but her CO saturation was too great.
Again, thanks for the kudos, but I'm just happy to have had the opportunity to actually do something that we train for.
