Hey brothers. Last shift we got dispatched to Olympia for a commercial structure fire. EO4 announced a working fire in a 2 story commercial and was on fire attack. Lacey's TK31 teamed up with Olympia's TKO1 for vertical ventilation. I remembered to turn on my helmet cam once we were already on the roof. Here's what we did, check it out. As usual if you see something good, bad or different throw it out there.

Awesome work!
Just curious if you talked to Fire Attack? How was it inside before and after the roof was open?

I was not at the fire, but had a chance to sit through the fire critique and talk to the crews.

The fire originated near a clothes dryer and exdended to the attic. The bulk of the fire was overhead.

The officer on the attack line reported that he had light to moderate smoke conditions when he entered with little heat.

The domestic water supply line that had ruptured causing an increase in steam, fogging his mask and TIC. He reported he pulled ceiling near his entrance point and did not see fire. I suspect the attic fire was choked down (ventilation limited). Once the vent holes where opened up, he reported that the smoke/ attic began to take off. He stated that when the second line was placed in service the attic fire was extinguished.

From my conversations with people who where on scene the benefit of the vert vent was to convert the vent limited fire to fuel limited fire in a safe manner. The vent holes where substantial in size, keeping interior conditions tenable for the crews. Once the fire was vented the guys on the hoses did the rest.
