Who out there has a straight ladder truck (non-tiller) with no pump that they are particularly proud of? We're getting ready to spec a new truck and are looking for some ideas on what other folks are doing. I'm interested in compartment set up, tool and ladder configuration, etc.
If you've got a setup that you feel works well, I'd be interested in stopping by to take a look if I may.

Lacey rocks the straight bodied 105' Pierce truck. I'm proud as hell of it and our folks put a bunch of time into setting it up. I also built quite a bit of bracketry to hold various tools and hydraulic rams. You're more than welcome to come check'er out.

Hey now, it's only a quint if you actually use the pump. The current 16 Truck has a pump... I think. I believe I've walked past something resembling a pump on my way to the tool compartment.

So if you guys don't want us to call them quints, how does "engine with a long ladder" sound?

Hey now, there's enough clicks within the fire service without creating a quint vs. truck battle. The fight's out there man!

Bryan,
Tacoma Fire has a new straight stick going in service sometime this month. Contact Ladder 2 Captain (and PS FOOL) Todd Magliocca at 253-591-5708.

Our reserve ladder is a straight truck. 1996 HME/Smeal. It's a little older, but in great shape for a reserve. There are a couple things about this truck that I like better than our current one. The aerial tip has a lot less crap near it. This makes it a lot easier to position close to buildings. It's controls are also easier to finely adjust/work. Other than that Seattle and Tacoma are the only other places I can think of. Lakewood has a rear mount truck and I don't believe it has a pump, but don't know for sure. I know that Renton and I believe Lynnwoods don't have a pump, but they do have the buckets. Here's our reserve: A little better view of the front/tip:

Cool, thanks guys. The 16 Truck has a bucket too, and so will the next one. I really want to get a feel for compartment set up on some of these rigs. Y'all may see my smiling face swingin by for a visit.
